|
|
I've tried to launch it in many ways, but it doesn't work.
In suse I've always done
startx - /pathwhereisgnome2
but in Gentoo seems not right.
Thanks for the help,
Riccardo
p.s. if in /etc/rc.conf I write XSESSION=Gnome, launching "startx" starts gnome, but I see only the background, and nothing else _________________ Sideralis Programs

Sounds like you are starting Gnome to me, but that there is something wrong/missing from Gnome. Does it just hang or does it exit, or what? Have you emerged a window manager for your Gnome? Some more information about what you have done to get where you are could be helpful.

I had the same problem when I started gnome (just the background image).
Maybe your firewall is too restrictive, because after setting all chains to allow (just for testing of course) and flushing them gnome started at once. Now I have my external firewal back and have all the time to find the needed ports for gnome. Still don't know which they are though as I am still learning on iptables.

Thank you.
Now I've modified some things and nothing works
But is not a problem, I will repair all.
Just I'd like to know what do you write to start gnome (it will become useful later).
Ciao,

I just type startx with xsession set to gnome. That's where you got just the background and I thought of my firewall problem some time ago. |

try
xinit /usr/bin/gnome-session
or create a file in your home directory called
.xinitrc
and insert this :
Quote: |
exec /usr/bin/gnome-session
