I've tried to upgrade KDE 3 times in the past several days, and each time it seems to be failing. I say "seems to" because it does the full build (about 2 1/2 hours for kdebase alone) and then errors on creating /root/.kde. At the end of the last build it displayed:
Code: |
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdebase-3.1.3/work/kdebase-3.1.3'
--------------------------- ACCESS VIOLATION SUMMARY ---------------------------
LOG FILE = "/tmp/sandbox-kdebase-3.1.3-6280.log"
mkdir: /root/.kde/share
mkdir: /root/.kde/share
mkdir: /root/.kde/share
mkdir: /root/.kde/share
.
.
.

except the column of mkdirs was *very* long -- well over a hundred lines.
Any idea what could be up with this? I'm emerging as root -- it shouldn't be a permissions issue. Could it be failing since there is already a .kde directory in that area? If it tried over 100 times to create the directory, I would expect it to fail 99 times if that is the problem.
Doesn't make any sense to me. |

Perhaps you would want to take a look at /tmp/sandbox-kdebase-3.1.3-6280.log and check the end of that file for any errors. |

Did that. It's a remarkably featureless file. Nothing but 168 lines of:
Code: |
mkdir: /root/.kde/share
|
No other lines, no other messages. |
