Just a thought.

A neat feature would be an emerge option to update the latest packages with known security problems.

Something like
Code:
emerge -up --security

Perhaps its in the works already.

Say, seaweed... what sort of a response do you expect to see to this idea?

(others, if you're reading this, please don't respond yet - I want to see what this guy thinks)

Just thought it would be a nice feature.

Perhaps something already exists that is simular and someone could point it out.

Perhaps something like this is being implemented.

Perhaps someone might agree and decide to code it.

....

OK... so you've got the right attitude. Partly. You understand that this idea is not necessarily original. It seems that you just haven't reached the critical step of the process yet... searching, that is.

One instance of the emerge --security idea can be found at https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=72246&highlight=emerge+security (and as you can see, it's findable with a quite intuitive search string). It's not the only one. Not nearly so. I'll leave finding more similar threads and finding out what others have said as an exercise to the reader...

I think this is important enough to bring up again, and again, and again. The idea has been hashed, re-hashed, and hashed again over a period of at least a year, yet there seems to have been little to no action taken to actually implement the it. :(

GLEP 14 is going to be reviewed at the next Gentoo managers meeting next week and will be completely implemented short after that if it is accepted.
