I am trying to install xbmc...

First I thought I would start by emerging XMBC

While emerging I get the following:

Code:

configure: == Use of external ffmpeg enabled. ==

== External ffmpeg doesn't support VDPAU. VDPAU support disabled. ==
checking for main in -la52... yes
configure: == Use of external liba52 enabled. ==
checking for main in -ldts... no
configure: error: Could not find a required library. Please see the README for your platform.

Any ideas or is there a better way I should be going about installing this???

Hi thekeymaker.

It seems to me that your python is pretty outdated, probably your whole system.
If don't want to update your system and world before installing xbmc, you should do at least the following:

lafilefixer --justfixit && python-updater && revdep-rebuild

afterwards you shoud check with eselect python list if the default uses python 2.x (highest installed version of the 2.x series, instead of 3.x, if installed)

When finishing successful, try again to install xbmc

Hint: If your graphics hardware and driver support vdpau , you should enable its USE Flag at first, and update your world with the new-use option at first

Much success,
Andy.

rule of thumb my friend, in gentoo, when you have a bug, report it.
workarounds such as "unpack a tar" aren't the right way to handle these issues.

to the op, we cannot help much without the full config log but I'd think you should check if media-libs/libdca is installed, if not, install it and try to emerge xbmc again, if it works, fill a bug because xbmc is dependent on media-libs/libdca and it isn't pulled in on emerge.

Ok I do have lib

Code:

Latest version available: 0.0.5-r2
      Latest version installed: 0.0.5-r2

Also DaggyStyle, what log do you want .... do you want a printout of my emerge config settings or the printout of all the text that gets printed when emerging xbmc. Or both...

You can use, if you want to, xbmc-9999.
It compiles without any problem on my computer (~amd).

it isn't installed, in linux there are two states of a program when using package manager, installed on not installed, there is no middle situation.

from an other post ....(XBMC fails to recompile: -ldts... no)

That was so much easier, thanks!!

I've been editing the long way for ages lol

Had to clear out the tmp/media-tv directory, seems it had leftovers that even when i changed the configure.in it still looked for it.

But...
Code:
configure: == Use of external liba52 enabled. ==
checking for main in -ldca... yes
configure: == Use of external libdts enabled. ==

Huge thanks to both of you! :)

And sorry i didn't take in what you said sooner ssuominen, i assumed as the package hadn't changed it was something else. Well i guess it was something else but i didn't think it would change that much in a few days.

So to clarify what i did.

Code:
emerge --fetchonly xbmc
removed /var/tmp/portage/media-tv (most likely only due to me playing about before)
ebuild /usr/portage/media-tv/xbmc/xbmc-9.11-r4.ebuild unpack

then edited the line in configure.in from:

AC_CHECK_LIB([dts], [main],, AC_MSG_ERROR($missing_library))

to

AC_CHECK_LIB([dca], [main],, AC_MSG_ERROR($missing_library))

(don't ctrl+f for the exact line it has more spaces in the actual file)

then:
Code:
ebuild /usr/portage/media-tv/xbmc/xbmc-9.11-r4.ebuild merge

It's past configure and building as i type this, will edit with the result but its looking promising.

Thanks again to all who helped and i just hope they fix this soon, silly little problem :)

rule of thumb my friend, in gentoo, when you have a bug, report it.
workarounds such as "unpack a tar" aren't the right way to handle these issues.

to the op, we cannot help much without the full config log but I'd think you should check if media-libs/libdca is installed, if not, install it and try to emerge xbmc again, if it works, fill a bug because xbmc is dependent on media-libs/libdca and it isn't pulled in on emerge.

sorry if its a bad thing to do but if it is helpful why not help

if you want to do it the windows way, be my guest, just don't recommend it to other without mentioning that it isn't the right way.

Hey,

I was facing this issue when I had "vdpau" USE flag set on a non-nvidia card. When I disabled it, it worked. Yay!
