Ubuntu has a pulseaudio equalizer shown here:

http://digitizor.com/2010/02/08/how-to-install-system-wide-pulseaudio-equalizer-in-ubuntu-9-10-and-10-04/

Does the package exist for Gentoo???

Or goes anyone know where I can find source code?

And here are install instructions. It says on that page:
Quote:
The equalizer is available in pulseaudio's master git branch so instead of the git repository below, you may just want to compile from there.

So we may probably see the equalizer in the next pulseaudio release. As well as the GUI pqaeq:
Quote:
pqaeq is included in the pulseaudio source tree under src/utils and will be installed alongside the equalizer module to /usr/bin/qpaeq in most setups automatically.

There is a pulseaudio-9999 git-ebuild in sabayon overlay, if you merge that, you'll get the equalizer:
Code:
layman -a sabayon
echo "media-sound/pulseaudio **" >> /etc/portage/packages.keywords
emerge -av media-sound/pulseaudio

You may have to merge dev-python/PyQt4 (with dbus use flag enabled) as well to run the GUI, as this dep has not been added to the git-ebuild yet:
Code:
emerge -av dev-python/PyQt4

To use the equalizer-module you have to make some modifications to /etc/pulse/default.pa according to http://pulseaudio.org/wiki/SystemEqualizer. add:

Code:
load-module module-equalizer-sink sink_name=equalized master=<alsa_output>
set-default-sink equalized

to the end of default.pa, where <alsa_output> is your alsa-sink. You get the name of your alsa-sink by invocing:
Code:
pacmd list-sinks|grep 'name:'

After changing all that you need to restart pulseaudio, if you had it already running:
Code:
pulseaudio --kill
pulseaudio --start

Look at your syslog for errors.
The "set-default-sink" option did not work for me. Pulseaudio complains that it doesn't know "equalized" sink. "pacmd list-sinks" however shows the sink has been created. The "set_default=true" option as mentioned in the wiki didn't work at all. It prevented the equalized module from loading completely.
However, I was able to swith to equalized as my default sink manually by the pulseaudio mixer (Output-> FFT based equalizer) and it works.
Run the GUI /usr/bin/qpaeq to adjust your equalizer settings.

I don't use Pulseaudio, but I'm interested in how it turns out, so I'll stay tuned. 8)

It is not missing. All you need to do is build PulseAudio with equalizer in USE flags.
