My apologies for the abridged title, I wanted to get the full error message in. I recently installed gentoo on my PC, and it installed fine, but when I compiled kde and tried to run it (# startkde), I received the following error:
$DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server
I've googled it, but I haven't found anything thus far and I don't know what to do. |

Listhen to me, I tried this problem in Ubuntu simply was adding command "sudo apt-get install xinit", after I run "sudo startx" and my KDE has run. |

Yeah, you know what? that answer is completely meaningless to me. what the hell is that syntax because it shows up as non UTF or non english character. i have to read this in term because i have no desktop... |

monicajae,
Not sure if you're referring to the à (it's an a with a ` (grave accent) on top of it).
Anyblue, the advice I guess might work globally, but as far as I understand, the more common and perhaps appropriate way to set exec startkde is at the user's home path, in the file:
As for the comment from Ubuntu, that's a bad idea. No, we do not run 'sudo startx', and neither should you, be you a bot or not. ^^; _________________ Kindest of regardses. |
