I dont have an answer for you, but I'll give you somewhere to look.

udev is responsible for building /dev/dvb nodes so It apears to be a udev issue, look into MKDEV or MAKEDEV cant rem the exact name of the script.

If it worked with the old device, it is probably not an udev issue. More likely your kernel is not configured correctly (maybe missing tuner/frontend support) or the device requires different firmware. (Unfiltered) dmesg usually has more information.

jepp i think it is à frontend thing to. the old card
was for mpeg 2 and this is for 4 as i understand
it .but i dont understand what /dev/dvb has to do
with it.correct me, if udev see it it should be in dev.
my old card Did not have à frontend in dev ,there were
only /dev/dvb/device0 .i have read the gentoo vdr doc
and the budget cards wont have to have more then just
the kernel stuff.it can be à to old kernel (2.6.31)so i am
on to update but got some problem with(2.6.35) i hope that
is the problem

The /dev/dvb device will only appear if the kernel has the correct driver for chipset/frontend/tuner and firmware is installed.

If the /dev/dvb device does not appear, this usually means that one of those is missing.

I thought I made myself clear already.
  1. Find out the correct chipset driver.
  2. Find out the correct tuner driver (if any).
  3. Find out the correct frontend driver (if any).
  4. Find out the correct firmware.
And verify with lspci -k (kernel driver in use) and dmesg that these things are loaded correctly. If you post here, then give unfiltered output.

okej i have looked for some answers and did not come up to any ting.
from what i have find from the install guide is the same as in the gentoo-sources
so how do i make it work.

select the device/card-drivers to compile and install

# make menuconfig

follow the menus and enable at least

<M> Technisat/B2C2 FlexCopII(b) and FlexCopIII adapters
<M> Technisat/B2C2 Air/Sky/Cable2PC PCI
<M> Technisat/B2C2 Air/Sky/Cable2PC USB

4) Install firmware binary

The CX24120 requires a firmware to operate normally. The file is called "dvb-fe-cx24120-1.20.58.2.fw" and has to be put into the system's firmware directory.

/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware
or
/lib/firmware

for example you can do:
# cp <path-to-binary-file>/dvb-fe-cx24120-1.20.58.2.fw /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware

Don't know if this is still an issuer but here is something that looks like a resolution:
http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/TechniSat_SkyStar_S2

And: TechniSat SkyStar S2 != TechniSat SkyStar HD2. So the mantis-stuff posted above will not work!

If its anything like my TV card you have to build them as modules, if i build them built in i don't see anything

My SkyStar S2 is running fine with 3.1.0
I can send you patch if you still need it.
