Problem setting language in gimp and other gtkaps

Hi there,

my problem:

Sice I've recompiled my hole system (no it's 1.3b), I'm not able to change the language of gimp and other gtk-aps. With my last installation I did an export LANG="de_DE" and I got gimp in german. Since the recompilation it doesn't work anymore - gimp stays english. Any ideas? Do some extra packages have to be present which I might have not installed jet? Or is it even a gcc3-related problem?
