If i do X -retro -config /root/xorg.conf.new, works fine, i can see the black and white pattern with a mouse ( X ) in the middle. Then i press Ctrl+Alt+Bskpc (it shows an error "Module i915 not found. error setting MTRR"), copy cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf, try to startx and get:
Code:
FATAL: Module i915 not found.
error setting MTRR (base = 0xc0000......) Inappropriate ioctl for device (25)
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc: line 62: exec xterm: not found

I checked the kernel and i have that i915 installed (*, M didn't work).

Maybe you updated you xorg-server and x11-drivers don't work with it? Try rebuilding your x11-drivers (and some more things, but they all are small so it shouldn't be a problem):
Code:
emerge -av1 $(eix -sI xf8 --only-names)

(if you don't have eix then emerge eix)

Not really a bug, just your misconception.

1. Try xinit instead startx (see aboout ~/.xnitrc) - you probably will start desktop environment not X ;)
2. # line 62 exec xterm ;)
