PostPosted: Tue May 10, 2016 12:56 am    Post subject: Trouble with the Gold Linker on Freshly Unpacked musl-stage3 Reply with quote

I had been having trouble with ld.gold in a previous stage3 chroot, and so I decided to delete that install and unpack the tarball again.
On this fresh install I made sure to follow the amd64 handbook to the letter, up to updating the system, before doing so I followed instructions on adding the musl overlay to portage, and finally set the linker to ld.gold as described by this guide.

Upon executing "emerge -uDN @world" emerge failed when configuring one of the first few packages, I think it was curl. What I do distinctly remember is being distressed at the fact that it spat out the exact same error message as the previous stage3 chroot had when I attempted to switch linkers.

After trying "emerge -e @world" and having that fail upon configuring the very first package, xz-utils, I am now here.

All packages would fail with "Cannot run C compiled programs" in the configuration stage, both new and old install alike.
The only packages that would install successfully I noticed were those that didn't print their configuration to stdout, Error and a few perl packages.

Here's xz-utils' emerge --info:

I haven't altered any of the default CFLAGS or USE flags.
The only addition I made to make.conf was to appended the instruction to source the musl overlay.

Thanks for taking the time to read.
