I run a pcmcia network card, so the net.eth0 script should be called when pcmcia services are started. This works correctly. However, since net.eth0 is not listed in the default renlevel, eth0 is shut down when the boot runlevel is reached an the default runlevel begins.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? The dirty solution is to add net.eth0 to the default runlevel, but problems will arise when the card is not inserted; I'd prefer a clean solution.

Also, possibly related, eth0 is not stopped when the card is removed. Any thoughts on why and how to fix it?
