I don't if this has been asked. I want to install something like qt-config, but qt-config is not itself a package, so it must be contained in some larger packages? The question is how to find out which package contains it.

If you don't already have the package installed, there's no good way to do it that I know of.

If it's installed and you want to know what it belongs to:
Code:
~ $ equery b `which qtconfig`
 * Searching for /usr/bin/qtconfig ...
x11-libs/qt-qt3support-4.6.2 (/usr/bin/qtconfig)

You can also search the repositories of binary distributions like Ubuntu or Debian, and hope, that the containing package also exists in Gentoo, under a not too different name ...
