It had been bugging me for a while that the default settings in PuTTY with the default gentoo bash initrc leaves the HOME and END keys unmapped.
The easy fix appears to be
In the PuTTY configuration set:
Connection->'Terminal-type string' = linux
Terminal->Keyboard->Function keys->linux

When the ttype is set to 'xterm' the keyboard needs to be set to SCO and that messes with other apps. The first one I noticed was vim loosing pgup and pgdown.

I'm not sure if this breaks xterm mouse support as I don't use it.

when using bash the default mode is Emacs. therefore if you want to go to the beginning of the line you can press CTRL-a

to reach the end of the line in a hurry press Ctrl-e

:)

Thank you for the tip, this does also fix my numeric keypad issues.
But this way unfortunately my putty window title never changes. (This way i cannot see for example emerge progress.)
Is there a way to make both keyboard and window title change properly working?
