I recently finished getting Workstation 7 setup and running on my Gentoo 2.6.31-r9 AMD64 host. Everything is working like a charm - except USB passthrough. My USB keyboard and mouse are working fine on the host, and the VM integration is fine for them.
The problem comes with USB storage devices and FTDI chips. They are detected, and usable, on the host, but not so much as a blip in the guest (regardless of what guest OS is running). There are no devices listed in VM -> Removeable Devices. I've tried unplugging and plugging back in very quickly, as suggested in one post, with no success. I have the usbfs mounted as directed in the Knowledgebase:
krasus ~ # mount | grep usb
usbfs on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,devmode=0664,devgid=85)
Still no luck. After a host reboot, and guest reboots, there is no activity in the guest after plugging in a USB device to the host.
Any ideas? |

I have Workstation 7.01 working on 2.6.31-r6. USB works fine for me. I assume you have checked the basics? Like the usb controller configuration in your VM etc? Let me know if you would like to see any specific config files.... |
