|
|
On | Code: | | emerge -auNDv world | i get the following conflict:
| Code: | | kde-base/libknotificationitem:4.3[-kdeprefix] ("kde-base/libknotificationitem:4.3[-kdeprefix]" is blocking kde-base/kdelibs-4.4.0) |
I have gone on and updated system: | Code: | | emerge -auNDv system |
I have tried removing both libknotificationitem and kdelibs packages.
I have emerged kdelibs again.
Still nothing.
Here is the message that is delivered:
| Code: | * Error: The above package list contains packages which cannot be
* installed at the same time on the same system.

Thank you for your response. I had searched. Just didn't find that thread.
I have removed libknotificationitem and that didn't help.
I do not have mimelib, so that is not it either.
I sync'ed before i started, so i doubt it is that; but just to be safe i am syncing now again.
Here is another thread if someone else is also struggling with this:

Your first post shows info that I can not find in your last post.
I don't see anything in the last post that should stop it from doing the emerge. All that I see in the last info that you posted is small (b) blocks which emerge will take care while doing the emerge.
Have you tried it with the last emerge command? |

Hi tryn. Thanks for the reply. I see what you mean. I think the post became too long and in hindsight i wish i never posted it. Takes too long to xroll past. Let me just give you the tail of the output.

1. If you used sets with Portage 2.2, make sure you don't have old versioned sets installed.
2. Check /var/lib/portage/world that you don't have any slot deps like kde-base/something:4.3 there. If you do, delete those lines. You should basically only have kde-base/kdebase-meta, or kde-base/kde-meta, or kde-base/kdebase-startkde there, depends on what you use to install KDE.
3. You can also mask kde-base/libknotificationitem in /etc/portage/package.mask to get more useful error message from Portage, or you can try to emerge with version handlers such as: emerge =kde-base/kdebase-startkde-4.4* also to get more useful message |

Hi ssuominen. Thank you for your response.
| ssuominen wrote: | | 1. If you used sets with Portage 2.2, make sure you don't have old versioned sets installed. |
I don't use sets.
| ssuominen wrote: | | 2. Check /var/lib/portage/world that you don't have any slot deps like kde-base/something:4.3 there. If you do, delete those lines. THe only lines in /var/lib/portage/world that containt the string kde-base are these:
| Quote: | kde-base/dolphin
kde-base/kdeartwork-desktopthemes
kde-base/kdeartwork-kscreensaver
kde-base/kdebase-startkde
kde-base/kdelibs
kde-base/kdm
kde-base/kmenuedit
kde-base/kwrite
kde-base/libkdegames
|
Does this seem correct?
| ssuominen wrote: | | 3. You can also mask kde-base/libknotificationitem in /etc/portage/package.mask to get more useful error message from Portage... |
I have tried masking libknotificationitem, getting the following output:
| Quote: | gambit ~ # emerge -autNDv world
These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=kde-base/libknotificationitem-4.3.5[-kdeprefix,-aqua]" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- kde-base/libknotificationitem-4.3.5 (masked by: package.mask)
(dependency required by "kde-base/kdeartwork-desktopthemes-4.3.5" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "world" [argument])
|
Stumped. |

Hi DaggyStyle. I'm sorry, but i don't understand what you mean. What does "unkeyworded" mean?
I also see that i am not the only person that is having trouble with this. Though the solutions that have worked for some are not working for me. So that is my specific issue that we are trying to resolve here. However, what is the issue in general? Does anyone know why this is happening and what makes it happen? More importantly i think is why are most not experiencing it? |

Man, i wish i remember what i did for this in detail - I will try to recount it best I can.
Basically I had to unmerge libknotificationwhatever, then unmerge kmail
Basically I unmerged heaps of shit that depended on libknotificationshit
then was able to upgrade
In this example:
| Code: |
>=kde-base/libknotificationitem-4.3.5[-kdeprefix,-aqua] required by ('ebuild', '/', 'kde-base/kdeartwork-kscreensaver-4.3.5', 'merge')
>=kde-base/libknotificationitem-4.3.5[-kdeprefix,-aqua] required by ('ebuild', '/', 'kde-base/libkdegames-4.3.5', 'merge')
>=kde-base/libknotificationitem-4.3.5[-kdeprefix,-aqua] required by ('ebuild', '/', 'kde-base/kdeartwork-desktopthemes-4.3.5', 'merge')
|
You'd unmerge kdeartwork-kscreensaver, unmerge libkdegames-4.3.5, unmerge kdeartwork-desktopthemes
Let me troll through my emerge.log and see if I can backtrack, but in the meantime that's basically the gist of it - I had to completely unmerge packages that depended on older versions of say, libknotificationitem. _________________ Lost configuring your system?

the right way to solve it is by looking at the output, seen what 4.3.5 package is blocking and unmerge it until all are unmegred. then it should be ok.
but kde-4.4.0 is keyworded (~), so for each package you want to upgrade/install of that version you need to unkeyword it. _________________ Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein |

Hi cach0rr0 and DaggyStyle. I guess hacking my way through all the packages that require libknotificationitem is the way to go. It just seems at much. I am always busy defending gnu/linux and especially gentoo, but i can see how someone who just wants to get something done can get annoyed at this type of scenario. Pro's and con's i guess.

gentoo is not for the faint hearted. gentoo has it cons but it comes with pros. only very advanced users should choose gentoo.
this things will not happen in fedora/opensuse/debian/ubuntu.
that cannot be said about windows, for example, enabling sata support on xp is for advanced users and there is no other way to do that. _________________ Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein |

I hear what you are saying, but i disagree slightly; for one simple reason. We were not all born "very advanced users". The greatest advantage of gentoo for me is the control i get to exercise over my system. That is something that i find hugely lacking in many other systems (gnu/linx and windows). I find that when i am working in other environments there is always some piece of rubbish running or installed that i have never heard of. Or somehow the system makes certain decisions on my behalf. That infuriates me. Therefor gentoo. Now the downside is exactly the same thing. Nothing really gets done for you. You have to exercise that control. So it takes a bit of work. But i love it. And i think that is where i differ from you. It is not only for the "uber advanced" peeps, but also for those who enjoy it and choose it. |

no one is born advanced, he can achieve that. but as I said before, gentoo has it's pros (flexibility) and one of it cons in this situation exactly.

Ok here's a progress update:
When doing a

Does this mean that i have to remove amarok and k3b from my system? I would really dislike removing amarok. Any way around this? |

the answer for this quite simple, install amarok-2.2.2.90 an k3b-1.70.0_beta1.
don't forget to install media-sound/amarok-utils-2.2.2.90 and your on your way _________________ Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein |

Bumping amarok up resulted in it wanting to emerge libknotificationitem. Curses!!! The infinit circlie of the libknotificationblahblah... ANyway. So i now removed k3b and amarok temporarily from my world file. I don't whether this is good or not, but it is working.
So it *seems* that the answer is getting rid of everything on your system that needs libknotificationitem. I will see what happens after the world update and i put those two packages back. |

I beg the differ, I don't use sets and my world file had no slots in it when it comes to kde and its dependencies and that exact issue happened to me. _________________ Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein |

So i removed k3b and amarok from my /var/lib/portage/world file, allowing me to upgrade world.
So after putting them back, i want to update k3b:
| Quote: | gambit ~ # emerge -auv k3b
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild N ] kde-base/libknotificationitem-4.3.5 USE="(-aqua) -debug (-kdeenablefinal) (-kdeprefix)" 0 kB
[ebuild N ] kde-base/libkcddb-4.3.5 USE="musicbrainz (-aqua) -debug (-kdeenablefinal) (-kdeprefix)" 0 kB
[ebuild U ] app-cdr/k3b-1.70.0_beta1 [1.69.0_alpha4] USE="dvd encode flac mad musicbrainz vorbis wav (-aqua) -debug -emovix -ffmpeg (-kdeenablefinal) -lame -musepack% -sndfile -sox -taglib -vcd" 8,412 kB
Total: 3 packages (1 upgrade, 2 new), Size of downloads: 8,412 kB |
And look who's back? libknotificationitem. Welcome - we missed you! Don't know if this is a problem, but everything seems to be going ok. Will keep updating as things unfold. |

you've didn't unkeyworded all you need...
do the following:
| Code: | | equery l kde-base/ | grep 4.3.5 |
look at the output, every package that is installed on your computer and is of version 4.3.5, check if there is an 4.4.0 version for it, of so, add it to packages.keywords. if not remove it.
run update on world
install k3b and amrok (if not installed yet)
if you continue to get that same output, look at what 4.3.5 package in pulled in, add these packages into packages.keywords
install.
finito. _________________ Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein |
