Hi Gentoo guys,

I have installed Gentoo after around 4 years. Though my production system at home is Ubuntu (login for every one at home), I always keep trying other distros also. Recently I tried Gentoo, though it took 2 days (on working day) to get complete KDE 4.3 desktop system, the system is so stable and highly responsive.

Another aspect is after around 5 years, I am using KDE for more than a week to test it. Since I like GNOME's simple interface, some times I need better configurable desktop. I have tried KDE 4 a few times in last one year on other distros, I used to get crashes and partial working desktop - uninstalled in a few hours.

Now Gentoo + KDE 4.3 => *** IT ROCKS *** I will keep evaluating this for few more weeks, most probably I will change my production system to this at least for me. Since I will do experiments on this - expecting broken system, I can't move my family member's login to this system - let them always have a stable Ubuntu desktop as working system - where I am not going to experiment any thing.

In summary, Gentoo seems to be highly usable for mass users also if you don't keep yourself on bleeding edge and experiment.

Be aware of this bug https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=304315

I can confirm this problem - with soprano 2.4.0, krunner, dolphin, nepomuk are
not running, logging out takes a lot of time. Upgrading to nepomuk-9999 (kde
overlay) didn't solve the problem.

yeah and soprano 2.4.0.1 is also already out

so bumping it to 2.4.0.1 locally would be the best solution ...

Welcome back. You, like those of us who have tried other distros, couldn't stay away for long. ;)

We should think of a new sub forum for all the
- I'm fed up and leaving Gentoo
- I'm back again after 3 days
- Two years of Gentoo, that's enough!

threads.

Gentoo sucks, but is is the least sucking distro of all Linux distros out there :)

It's nice, but niifaq e17 w/ecomorph is keeping me away from KDE right now ;)

4.4.1 KDE is, by far, the nicest KDE I have ever used... but I'm still an "e" junkie at heart.

swamytk, welcome back the world of fast GCC spew :)

In fact, and since KDE 4.0 went out, I can tell that they made a great process.

Because KDE 4.4.0 is pretty stable on my box.
