Hello.

After emerging and installation sys-fs/udev-151 i get the following message:

Code:

ERROR: setup
  CONFIG_IDE:    should not be set. But it is.

WARN: setup
Please check to make sure these options are set correctly.
Failure to do so may cause unexpected problems.

So i tried to disable CONFIG_IDE in my kernel-configuration, but then - of course - my IDE-drivers are not detected. Including the IDE-HD the system boots from. So i switched it back on again.

Now i seriously wonder what that message is about, how someone with an IDE-HD is supposed to satisfy both needs (bootable system and CONFIG_IDE unset for udev-151) or if is simply no issue at all to leave it on.

So far everything works fine with CONFIG_IDE=y. I'm just curious.

my guess is, that you are still using the old (and pretty soon deprecated) ATA support, and not the newer (and nowadays stable) libata.

Code:
    Device Drivers  --->
    < > ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support  --->
    ...
    <*> Serial ATA (prod) and Parallel ATA (experimental) drivers  --->

The sideeffect of using libata is, that all IDE(PATA) devices are are called sda, sdb etc, and no longer hda, hdb etc.

just my .02$
V.

PS I haven't used libata for discs in some time, but it works flawless with my CD/DVD Burner.

Well, git of 2.6.33 marks CONFIG_IDE as deprecated
and upstream udev disables support for it.
But Gentoo re-enables it (at least in 151 it's put with a useflag).

Anyway, I've got IDE cdrom and disk and both work fine with CONFIG_ATA.

Solved. Thank you. With the help your information and some further investigation, i managed to get things up and running by the use of CONFIG_ATA.
