|
|
I've installed gentoo on my new computer with an asus p4c800 deluxe motherboard but the only way I can get it to run is with the ICH5 in compatible mode using only the p-ata ports. If I enable the sata ports (with one disk attached) linux crashes during boot just after probing the ide IRQs (I guess while trying to probe the sata IRQs). I've only tried using the standard gentoo sources and the gaming sources.
Has anyone had any success with the serial ata on this board? |

thanks.
Does the 2.6 kernel have any big drawbacks right now?
edit - Just saw in the thread you linked that you are at warwick? Are you studying there? If you are I'll ask you help when I get there at the end of the month, since I'm going to start computer science there. |

It seems stable enough, and the speed enhancements are nice, but finding drivers isn't the easiest task. Most sound cards are supported via the included alsa, and Nvidia/Ati drivers work ok for graphics. |
