Problems playing a dvd

  • Quote

Post by curmudgeon » Tue Jan 26, 2010 3:01 pm

I usually use mplayer to play dvds without any problem. But I have one now (that works fine in a stand alone dvd player) that gives me:

Code: Select all

$ mplayer dvd://1
MPlayer SVN-r29463-4.3.2 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team
Can't open joystick device /dev/input/js0: No such file or directory
Can't init input joystick

Playing dvd://1.

I have never seen many of these message before. Did I forget to compile something necessary into mplayer?

Can you play other DVDs with the same instance of mplayer?

If it's a crippled DVD, you'll need dvdnav://1

Yes. I have never had a problem before.

That worked!

Now I see:

Code: Select all

audio stream: 0 format: ac3 (5.1) language: en aid: 128.
audio stream: 1 format: ac3 (5.1) language: en aid: 129.
audio stream: 2 format: ac3 (stereo) language: en aid: 130.
INIT ERROR: couldn't get init pos New position not yet determined.
Remember to disable MPlayer's cache when playing dvdnav:// streams (adding -nocache to your command line)
DVDNAV, switched to title: 7
audio stream: 0 format: ac3 (5.1) language: en aid: 128.
audio stream: 1 format: ac3 (5.1) language: en aid: 129.
audio stream: 2 format: ac3 (stereo) language: en aid: 130.
MPEG-PS file format detected.
libdvdnav: Suspected RCE Region Protection!!!
DVDNAV, switched to title: 10
MPEG: No audio stream found -> no sound.
VIDEO: MPEG2 720x480 (aspect 3) 29.970 fps 8000.0 kbps (1000.0 kbyte/s)
Still getting a lot of error messages:

Code: Select all

Do those mean anything?

I do see one significant problem (using dvdnav://1). The arrow keys no longer work (left - back 10 seconds, right - ahead 10 seconds, down - back on minute, up - ahead one minute). Is there some way to fix that. I use those a lot (to take another quick look at things I might have missed :) ).

Thank you very much.

I think it'll work if you define those keys explicitly in ~/.mplayer/input.conf:

Code: Select all

LEFT seek -10
RIGHT seek +10
UP seek +60
DOWN seek -60

This worked for quite a while, but a recent upgrade of mplayer broke it again. :(

Mplayer now plays what I guess is one chapter (about one minute of a two hour video), and then says "Exiting... (End of file)," and stops.

I assume there is some parameter to overcome this, but I can't figure out what it is.

Thanks.
