Hi fellaz,

The title says it pretty much, but let me explain in details.

I'm making a new install of AMD64 and I'm wondering what's the newest version of GCC available for Gentoo/AMD64?

I got the AMD Athlon 64 5050e http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Athlon_64_microprocessors#.22Brisbane.22_.28Energy_Efficient_65W.2C_G1_.26_G2.2C_65_nm.29 and I want to use some more optimizations, but I'm not sure whether they are available at the current GCC from the livecd.

I see there's GCC 4.2, is it the latest seen in Gentoo? I saw the GCC upgrade guide, but it's only to 3.4.

On my previous install, with -march=native I got 'Core 2'!!! 8O Which are the most insane optimizations (for speed and general responsiveness) for my CPU? The RAM and HDD are not a problem.

not quite sure but I think it as normal as any other package.

emerge -uDN gcc

But you probably want to reemerge all other packages as well, since you have a new compiler now:

emerge -e world
