Has anyone here tried to run any old apple ii games in linux? There doesn't seem to be any apple emulator's in portage, and after doing some google searching, all the emulators I found either don't work, or won't compile. I even tried to run AppleWin under wine, but it crashes when trying to run a disk.

Any suggestions?

Check out kegs. It's not in portage and it seems its for II GS, but it runs older Apple II stuff also.

Check here for a link: http://linuxemu.retrofaction.com/links.php?category=Apple+%5D%5B

Edit: I think MESS has Apple II support also and it is in portage.

I've tried KEGS before, and while it seems to run, it won't load any of the *.dsk images I try. It always says "Invalid ROM file".

I emerged mess last night, but I can't figure how to get it to load a disk image either. :x

I have no idea why emulator people make it so difficult to run their software.

You do have a valid GS ROM file?
Did you change the boot order to start of slot 6 in the control panel? (The GS control panel)

I'm really not sure... I'm not really an expert in the emulation dept.

I got the disk images from:
ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/

The funny part is that I'm not trying to do anything illegal... I actually own the games I wan to play... I just haven't been able to play them since my old Apple II has been packed up (15 years ago).
