| I installed all the necessary packages but under System there is no Preference tab. What did I do wrong? |

try:
right click in panel, add to panel, select main menu.
there should be a systems, preferences there.
edit: did you install gnome or gnome-light? |

no, it didn't work. I have only System/Administration.
