I'm a long time linux user (mepis, ubuntu, opensuse, xubuntu and my now beloved crunchbang) I'm finishing a new case made from an old case modded with a recycled stainless steel tampax dispenser (for new panels) mahogany hardwood inlay-ed in the front. Two 120mm fans on the top blowing up through a double radiator.
I tried to load gentoo before and it was just too much work but with this new computer I've built I'm committed to building a custom compiled gentoo with my beloved openbox . As before a bit overwhelming for a self taught amateur geek but looking forward to using gentoo's legendary forums many thanx

i was considering crunchbang to put on my parents new laptop, but went with mint.

i get the feeling i should have at least tried it, as i really like *box, and both ubuntu and mint drive me nuts. but i'm writing a thesis and can't be bothered experimenting. i thought #! may have been a better compromise to my style, but would have been slightly further away from the parents' style ... and the customer is always right.

i like the vibe of the crunchbang forums, as well. #! not quite #1, though.

wouldn't mind hearing a comparison of #! and "gentoo-with-openbox", once you've come to grips with gentoo.

edit: and pics of this case, would be welcome, too!

Crunchbang is so fast, stable the work to make gentoo is making me take pause. Crunchbang can be installed in a very short time and if you have backed up old conf. files ie; tint, conky, autostart, menus & I have a copy/paste (for terminal) cheatsheet I can have a fresh install and configured Crunchbang in around 2 hours. and yes the forums are the best

Crunchbang is a binary distro, of course in 2 hours you can have a working box.

It seems to be a pretty cool distro too :P
