LVM2 autoconf failure

I'm trying to install lvm2-2.02.56-r2 on amd64 with no-multilib. The use flags are "lvm1 readline -clvm -cman -selinux -static" The error message is:

The sys-fs/lvm2-2.02.56-r2 ebuild enables the static USE flag. Is there a reason you are disabling it?
I am uncertain whether this is causing the autoconf failure.

I would start by checking that the following packages (all stable which do correctly build lvm2-2.02.56-r2) are correctly emerged

I have the same problem , with a system taken from stage-3 tarball for amd64 today, so would that mean that the tarball has corrupted compiles ? :

Problem solved by :
emerge pkgconfig
Reason :
pkgconfig missing in amd64 stage-3. Thus emerge pkgconfig
