|
|
I have allot of settings in kdewallet and kmail.
How can I automagicly migrate them?
Will Code: | cp ~/.kde/share/apps/kwallet ~/.kde4/share/apps/kwallet | work?
and for kmail:
Code: | cp ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail ~/.kde4/share/apps/kmail | ?
EDIT:
Seems like this will work according to this comment:
http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde&m=121857270904034&w=2
just wonder if anyone has done it yet in Gentoo.
EDIT2
I am going to just copy the whole folder and see what happens:
Code: | cp -avx .kde3.5/* .kde4/ |

| Don't do this. You might face weird instabilities. _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |

Well I just upgraded to KDE4 copying everything over and all my data works.
Kmail and Konqueror work flawlessly.
have not had any bad results so far.
I have added this to a wiki page I started on installing a minimal painless KDE4
http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Kde4_minimal#Installation.
Thanks for your input. _________________ Donate to Gentoo |

I also had these issues... and wasn't wild about doing, as suggested in assorted places, just copying everything in .kde to .kde4.
The good news is that I was able to save most things by copying.
If I remember correctly, you need to copy these files from your .kde35 directory to the matching directory under .kde4;
share/apps/kabc/distlists and highest-numbered std.vcf file ... that takes care of your address book.
If you have anything in the other folders under there, I guess they should be copied too.
everything in apps/kmail
share/apps/kwallet/kdewallet.kwl
share/config/emaildefaults
share/config/emailidentities
share/config/kaddressbookrc (??)
share/config/kmailrc
share/config/kmailsnippetrc
I *think* that was it .... the only settings I lost were the SMTP server settings... could not find where they were stored in 3.5.
I freaked when I started KMail for the first time, was not expecting that layout ... but was able to set it back to a plain list via the buttons on the right.
If anyone has corrections to the above list, please post...
(BTW surely this sort of migration should be done more-or-less automagically? Or at least have a tool in Kmail to do it?)
