Hi,

I've just installed libv4l to make sense of the fuzzy green mess that the gspca module gets from my Logitech Quickcam E2500. The message for libv4l says this:

Code:
 *
 * libv4l includes wrapper libraries for compatibility and pixel format
 * conversion, which are especially useful for users of the gspca usb
 * webcam driver in kernel 2.6.27 and higher.
 *
 * To add v4l2 compatibility to a v4l application 'myapp', launch it via
 * LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libv4l/v4l1compat.so myapp
 * To add automatic pixel format conversion to a v4l2 application, use
 * LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libv4l/v4l2convert.so myapp
 *

When I try to run Skype in this manner, I get the following message:
Code:
$ LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype
ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib64/libv4l/v4l2convert.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.

And of course, my webcam still just shows a fuzzy green mess in the test in Skype.

I'm running Gentoo Sources 2.6.31-r6.
Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this problem?

Thanks in advance,
Martin

You can't load 64-bit versions of the libv4l libraries because skype is a 32-bit app. You need 32-bit versions for skype.

I found comment #3 especially helpful.
