I'm using development-sources-2.6.0_beta4 and having trouble compiling kde.
emerge -p kde
[ebuild N ] media-sound/alsa-driver-0.9.6
...
When I try and emerge alsa-driver the compilation fails:
!!! ERROR: media-sound/alsa-driver-0.9.6 failed.
However, I have selected alsa in the kernel, so I dont think I actually want alsa-driver anyhow.
So I've tried emerge -i alsa-driver and am now emerging kde.
Is that the approach others are using?
I've seen some people say they are using the 2.6-test4 kernel with kde ... |

I emerged alsa-driver whilst running kernel 2.4, then got 2.6. Works for me. _________________ Registered Linux User #263260 |

yea, with 2.6 kernels it is necessary to inject alsa-driver to fool portage...That's the right route for now, until the devs make it so that if you're running a 2.6 kernel, and you're using kernel alsa support, portage won't insist on merging alsa-driver... Something's gonna have to change once stable 2.6 comes out anyway..... |
