Hi,
I hope this isn't too off topic! Is there a viewer somewhere out there in the portage tree to display my incoming fax files? The format is ether sff or tiffg3.
(OpenOffice can display the tiffs but the first page only even if the tiff contains more than one page.)
Thank You,
Felix |

Thank You!
I should have added in my last posting though that I would prefer to just use a viewer (not hylafax as it requires a lot of other stuff to install). Do you have another idea how to display sff or tiffg3 files?
Thanks again,
Felix |

I usually just pick them up and read them. But that's not what you were looking for
No, can't say that I'm familiar with any fax packages. That one appears to be the only
one in portage. You might do a Google for linux and fax. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

If you're using KDE, you can use kfax which does exactly what you want (it's in kdegraphics).
If you have kde graphics installed you'll find it under Graphics in the menu (naturally ). _________________ There's someone in my head but it's not me - Pink Floyd |

As I concider myself being something like a minimalist I stick to fvwm2 rather than use KDE or GNOME (this might also be the reason why I try to integrate a virtual fax machine into my computer loosing a lot of time rather than just buy one ).
Anyway, if there is kfax which can do the desired job I'll keep on hoping that there is a tiny little sweet stand-alone x app somewhere too...
Thanks!

Whoever may be interested in this story... Now, I got a way to view my faxes without hylafax, kde etc.:
Code: |
emerge tiff
tiff2ps -a my-mulitipage-fax.tif > all-pages-in-one-ps.ps
gv all-pages-in-one-ps.ps
|
By the way: I am using a passive ISDN adapter (from www.avm.de, search linux) to send and receive faxes. Although you can read about it that this consumes too much cpu power it works very good on my Pentium I, 133 Mhz, 16 MB RAM. AVM provides a standard capi interface and software to send and receive faxes from the console using sff or tiffg3 files (see c2faxsend and c2faxrecv).
Thank you for your help.

I don't know what the ghFaxViewer is like from the website posted by Philip de Lisle, but their gFax programs pretty damn spiffy! A nice all over fax front end for lazy jokers like me |
