Posted: Sat Dec 12, 2009 9:58 am Post subject: e2fsprogs and device mapper blocks in upgrade |
|
|
I've been updating my system, and it wants to upgrade xorg. But portage seems to be getting in a tangle.
It tries to uninstall sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.41.3-r1, then update sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.41.9 [1.41.3-r1], and then complains at the bottom that "<sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.41.8" is blocking sys-libs/e2fsprogs-libs-1.41.9. But it should have unmerged <sysfs/e2fsprogs-1.41.8 by then, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Also, '"sys-fs/device-mapper" is blocking sys-fs/udev-146-r1', but cryptsetup-1.0.6-r2 pulls in both >=sys-fs/udev-124 and >=sys-fs/device-mapper-1.00.07-r1.
So, if I've understood the problems correctly, downgrading udev might fix one of them, but surely this blockage shouldn't happen. I tried to unmerge e2fprogs before updating to fix the other one (again, it looks like I shouldn't need to), but got a very scary "!!! 'sys-fs/e2fsprogs' is part of your system profile. !!! Unmerging it may be damaging to your system." So didn't.
Full error log from the big update is posted below.

If you don't use raid or lvm you can safely unmerge device-mapper. If something needs it - it will pull lvm2 which has now device-mapper functionality.
If you use raid or lvm there are at least one topic discussing potential problems. |
