So, I heard that Chrome OS uses portage... Where can we find their tree, to see what's available? I won't lie, I'm chiefly concerned with having vim... But knowing what else is in the tree would be useful.

No, it is Gentoo based.

Catch 22, the hard drive is read only, and other BS. Basically, you can't do anything to the computer without putting it in "developer mode". You can't actually install things or keep local files. Developer mode might change that. I spent 10 minutes with the OS, and it was owned by someone else so I did not want to do anything that could damage the OS. I could be wrong.

Apologies if I take a while to respond. I'm currently working on the dematerialization circuit for my blue box.

It's not Ubuntu-based. That just shows how to install the binary product on Ubuntu.

As to the original question, I don't know the answer, but this might put you on the path to getting one:

This question looks promising:

Apparently they have a ton of overlays, and they use a "repo" tool to manage them.

See here: http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/developer-guide#TOC-Get-the-source
(Specifically the full layout/minilayout part)

Yes, and in the process you get their portage trees. Isn't that what you want?
