You are not wrong. However, most other packages with the use flag depends on kdelibs[=semantic-desktop] |

Why would I want image tagging in gwenview, just because I want document keywording in dolphin? That's a bit much. _________________ Important German:- "Aha" - German reaction to pretend that you are really interested while giving no f*ck.

Ain't it just? :-) You're very welcome.
And it all works without any "integration" required in subsidiary processes.
Wrt Kate complaining about foreign process modifying a file, sometimes it opens the file read-only instead, which is pretty much what I was after. I prefer being told if I'm editing the same file elsewhere in the group, as it makes me decide which session it belongs in. If I've opened it from a build output, it's cool too as I don't get told there's an issue til I save it, which reminds me to close it after.
So kdelibs clearly has some supporting code built-in so apps know they're in a tab group, if they want to behave differently. And if they don't, it's irrelevant since it works beautifully at WM/ process level. |

It sounds like a bug to me: Logically, the dependency should be kde-base/kdelibs[semantic-desktop?]
But it might be that the bug is in the build system of kde: That it is so broken that it is impossible to avoid building against semantik-desktop if kdelibs is built with it.
Perhaps somebody should report the issue to gentoo's kde team to be sure that tihis is not just an oversight in the ebuilds? |

I don't want semantic desktop, don't need it. If the USE dependency for Dolphin remains in >4.9.5, then I'm going to have hard choices to make. I *just* upgraded from 3.5.10 (yes) exactly because it took me this long to figure out how to turn off most of the useless shit in 4.x, now this. |

Code: |
[I] kde-base/dolphin
Available versions: (4) 4.9.5^t{tbz2} ~4.10.0^t
{{aqua debug +handbook semantic-desktop thumbnail}}
Installed versions: 4.9.5(4)^t{tbz2}(07:27:15 29.01.2013)(handbook -aqua -debug -semantic-desktop -thumbnail)

As you can see, semantic desktop can be turned off for dolphin.
I have turned it off as it doesn't play nice with nfs-mounted homes in my environment
I've been told that nfs mounted homes are out of fashion anyway nowadays with all these mobile gadgets. So the option may go away some day. We will need to use smb-mounts then |

I recently installed kde-4.10.0.
I have -semantic-desktop in my systemwide USE flags file.
Code: | localhost ikke # emerge -pv dolphin
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] kde-base/dolphin-4.10.0:4 USE="handbook (-aqua) -debug -semantic-desktop -thumbnail" 0 kB
Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB
localhost ikke #
|
And dolphin works ok although I rarely use it.
