After updating the kernel from 2.4.21 to 2.4.22 my machine doesn't boot (with the new kernel, the old one still works). I used the same Configuration for both kernels (cp, make oldconfig). The Problem which stops booting is that two of my SCSI-Controllers (Adaptec 29160/AHA7892 Chip) are not found whereas the on-board Controller (Adaptec AHA7899 Chip) is found. Usually the 7xxx-driver detects all Controllers. I had the same problem with gentoo-kernels, thats why I am using vanilla. All SCSI-Controllers are detected if I disable ACPI. Is there a way to keep ACPI and still be able to boot?

try using pci=noacpi

keeps acpi on but disables it for irq routing, which can help detect some PCI cards

Ok, I tested this. Now it fails in a new way.
Just after detecting all SCSI-Controllers I get:
Code:
scsi0: Unexpected busfree while idle
SEQADDR == 0x01
This message is repeated until the machine is rebooted.

Again missing half of my SCSI-Controllers with that.
