Wine 1.1.32 in a 32bit chroot can't see my joypad [solved]

Is there anything obvious I'm missing that's needed to make it work? I've had it working fine on a 32bit machine and in KVM, but not here...

The pad works fine normally. Running evtest from games-util/joystick works inside and outside the chroot. I can't use SDLJoytest because it causes X to hang (that's a completely unrelated OpenGL problem though).

edit: Hmm, now I'm getting the same problem on a plain 32-bit Debian install. Guess this is a bug in wine itself.
