I recently updated to KDE 4.3.3, gentoo-sources 2.6.31-r5 and nvidia-drivers-190.42-r3. Following this I seem to be getting random sudden X crashes (not a gradual lag then a crash - just a sudden crash). I can't seem to find any trigger for it. Here's the xorg log I picked up:

It looks like an nvidia issue and I'm not quite sure how to go about debugging it - any help?
Edit: it still crashes even if compositing is turned off. _________________ thinkMoult - I write articles online. You might like some of them.

Can't help with that xorg segfault, but I found 190.x unstable. The symptom was the desktop (2.6.30-gentoo-r8, Gnome, compiz)
freezing for a few seconds every 10 seconds or so. Didn't check the xorg logs. At first I suspected USE="vdpau xvmc", but removing them
did nothing to fix this. Going back from 190.42-r2 to 185.18.36-r1 helped. |

I am getting :
(EE) Failed to load module "evdev" (module requirement mismatch, 0)
(EE) No input driver matching 'evdev'
(EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest Failed (15)
After doing an emerge-webrsync on Sunday.
The emerge-webrsync updated to gentoo-sources 2.6.31-r5 and nvidia-drivers-190.42-r3. |

Did all of you recently upgrade xorg-server from 1.6.x to 1.7.x? Some nvidia driver users have been reporting problems with the new Xorg at nvnews.net. |

Can you provide any xorg logs or a backtrace of it?

i had the very same problem (even the backtrace matches), downgrading to xorg-server-1.6.5 fixed it. |

Hmm - I haven't tried downgrading Xorg.
What I did try was use Fluxbox for a couple days. It's been a good two days of straight usage without any crashes. I'm still using all my KDE applications on top of it. This suggests that the problem _might_ be with KDE 4.3.3. Can anybody reconfirm this?
I've been using Xorg 1.7 for a while now I think without any problems. _________________ thinkMoult - I write articles online. You might like some of them.

Which first patch? I just tripped over this bug while using eclipse. I checked both links, but I'm not sure which patch is the one to use. Is it still working for you? |

I've only had one...and the backtrace looked very similar. Who knows, but it's worth a shot.
Thanks for clarifying and posting the links. |
