I have an ATi Rage 128 graphics card and I have emerged xfree-drm. I am only able to get around 260 FPS and I wondered if my card should be able to produce more than this...

The modules section of my XF86Config looks like this:

Code:
Section "Module"
    Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension
    Load "extmod"
    Load "type1"
    Load "freetype"
    Load "glx" # 3D layer
    Load "dri" # direct rendering
EndSection

I got this by installing Mandrake before gentoo in order ot take advantage of the hardware detection. Most of these modules do not seem to be loaded - the only module relevant to my card that does get loaded is r128

If I try and modprobe any of the above then they are not found. Should these modules be available for me?

Also, I have read somewhere about using FBdev as an X server. What is this and is it in portage - if so what is the package name?

Any help in sqeezing more FPS frm my card would be appreciated - assuming it's possible.

I have xfree 4.3.0 and xfree-drm 4.3.0

Those are XFREE modules not kernel modules. You should add r128.o to your modules.autoload however.

r128 is loaded when X starts. So how can I tell if these XFree modules are being loaded properly?
