logout lockup

Hello,
My problem is that when I log out of gnome I get a total lockup - blank screen - and have to reboot. I've tried searching the forum for similiar but had no luck so if you can point me to a thread dealing with this, go ahead. Otherwise, lemme know what info would be helpful so I can post it for you.

Could be please post the logs, like stop gdm by /etc/init.d/xdm stop and then from a tty, log in and do startx >> fail.log ?
