Even when executing xrandr I get it.

I know that xrandr works with my hardware, because I tested out xrandr on ubuntu just to see if it works, and it works fine there.
But, on Gentoo xrandr doesn't.

The graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS PCI card with driver version 185.18.31, and I currently have 2 heads connected to the graphics card.
Yes, I said PCI, not PCIE.

I used nvidia-settings to configure my xorg.conf.
Here is my xorg.conf:

Code: Select all

# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings: version 1.0 (root@localhost) Fri Aug 14 07:21:25 EDT 2009

# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder63) Wed May 27 03:15:36 PDT 2009

Check /var/log/Xorg.0.log. It usually has the reason why RandR is not loaded.

By the way, I THINK the option is case sensitive and should be listed as "RandR".

Add this

Code: Select all

Option "RenderAccel" "true"
to your screen 0 section
UM780 xtx, 6.18 zen kernel, gcc 15, openrc, wayland
minixforum m1-s1 max -- same software as above but used for ai learning

Haven't restarted X yet

Post by cld71 » Sun Oct 18, 2009 2:48 am

I haven't been able to try any of the previous comments yet, because I have been compiling a new kernel all day (only have a p4 1.2G :( ).

but, when I execute the command
grep -i rand /var/log/Xorg.0.log
I get the following:

Code: Select all

(**) Extension "RANDR" is enabled
(II) LoadModule: "randr"
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module randr
(II) UnloadModule: "randr"
(EE) Failed to load module "randr" (module does not exist, 0)
(==) RandR enabled
(==) RandR enabled
(II) Initializing built-in extension RANDR
So I think it might be just a caps spelling problem in my xorg.cfg file.
I will update this message thread after the kernel is done.

xrandr is working

  • Quote

Post by cld71 » Sun Oct 18, 2009 4:14 pm

After tying all the message, I decided just to start over and create a new xorg.cfg and that worked.

Now my problem is that X thinks I have 1 screen when it has 2.
After doing the
xrandr
I get the following:

Code: Select all

Screen 0: minimum 2560 x 1024, current 2560 x 1024, maximum 2560 x 1024
default connected 2560x1024+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   2560x1024 50.0*
Thanks all for helping me. :D
