I wanted to do some tinkering with a usb numeric keypad, and thought of writing a .fdi file for hal, e.g. a keymap instead of the usual xmodmap, setxkbmap, etc. So, I went to look at hal, and noticed things have changed.
I see that "HAL is in maintenance mode - no new features are added. All future development focuses on Software/DeviceKit..." and "DeviceKit is a set of projects to replace HAL..." and finally ...probably the last release of DeviceKit. The functionality of DeviceKit is going to be merged into the udev-extras."
Can I guess from this, that someday we could use udev & udev-extras alone, not needing hal or devkit? _________________ Get Serious - Get JAWA CZ |

Have a look at this topic. There is quite a lot concerning your question in there. |

Moved from Desktop Environments to Duplicate Threads in favor of the thread linked in the post above. |
