Hey everyone, I've tried pretty much all that came to my mind.
I added support (built-in) for framebuffers, added the VESA framebuffer driver (also built-in) and then selected a logo.
I'm using grub2 and after rebooting, I passed gfxpayload=1024x768x16, and then passed the kernel with splash and ro parameters.
Still, I won't get the logo on top.
Hereby I append my kernel .config just in case there's something missing,or am I missing passing some parameter to the bootloader?

You shouldn't pass "splash" as a boot parameter (unless i missed something? but logo wont work over a splash image)

all you need is the vga/vesa/video parameter (whatever you may be using, vesa, uvesa, kms, etc)
(also you could have posted this in the zen-kernel thread or on the website or on irc

But fbcon is for uvesa, right? Shouldn't it work with VESA without any other userland tools?
Also, fglrx isn't for ATI cards? Mine is nVidia, and I've got pretty much the same you do, I only ticked out support for built-in fonts wich shouldn't affect the logo, right?

I edited the kernel configuration to resemble yours, installed fbcon (patched the zen-sources for it) and still, won't go, won't show the darn logo on top, couldn't it be something with the bootloader?

Try removing the gfxpayload (never seen this? could be something new...)

I actually gave up with the logo, too much hassle wasn't worth it

The gfxpayload parameter appears with grub2 (1.97) when you append the vga option, telling you it's deprecated and you should switch to the other one.
Anyways thanks for the input! I've seen that chart in Documentation/vesa it's the same one, right?

Interesting, I haven't had a chance to play with grub2 yet, but been meaning to, I'll have to check it out.
And yes, I believe that's the same chart. I found this on the Web.
It's weird though, you would think the kernel would complain about it being a deprecated option, not the boot manager, unless the boot manager is handing it off differently.

Ah ha! Looking into it, the gfxmode seems to only be for the grub menu size, so you're Grub menu wull be 1024x768, but your console won't be, unless you pass vga= to the kernel.

Managed to get a photo with my cellphone, from wich either I understand it wrongly, or the gentoo wiki is wrong, the text itself says:
"vga=791 is deprecated. Use set gfxpayload=1024x768x16,1024x760 before linux command instead."
I guess I'm not really understanding what it implies me to do?

EDIT: Forgot to say, I passed only the kernel, ro, and vga=791 as a parameter, it's visible on the image, and yet no logo appears.

Try vga=ask and look at the available resolutions.
On my box I get a whole lot.

Solved!
Ok, I took the dive and went to Grub2... the default, following the wiki, does not get me anything above the default resolution (640x480?), so I dug into it a bit more.
First off, Gentoo doesn't have support for the gfxpayload variable in the scripts. I followed: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=538099 , however I had to change where it adds to the 10_linux in /etc/grub/, I had to change it to "set gfxpayload"
You don't have to modify the scripts, you will just have to manually add "set gfxpayload=blah" to your linux second each time you regenerate with grub-mkconfig.
So.. how to get it working. Following the grub2 wiki, with gfxterms, to configure the font system (http://grub.enbug.org/gfxterm), I did the following:
