I wanted to put a larger(and much more silent) hard drive in my Ultra 5. I have read around the net of people having success doing so.

I have a 180GB drive laying around so I attempted to use that.

The problem is that when installing Gentoo, fdisk detects the first cylinder starting at 1 and not 0(unable to choose 0 either, even though it's not listed).

As such, I am unable to choose the proper partition types to continue(no whole disk option).

I read about the 137 Gb limitation but it seems that fdisk does recognize the whole drive.

So any help in installing sparc64 gentoo on this drive would be appreciated.

Hiya jeffro,

Have you tried creating the sun disklabel in fdisk? Normally once you've done this it will auto-create the whole disk partition (as well as some others which you can do with as you please).
