on emerging i get:
make -j1

/lib64/libiw.so.29 does exist on my machine
wireless-tools contains libiw right?, so why would it depend on it?
I've tried a revdep-rebuild, dont know what else to try

I can not emerge wireless-tools either
I can't find libiw.so anywhere on my system.
I am trying to do a fresh install for kde 4.3
emerge -v wireless-tools

Same issue here. Going to try to dig deeper.
EDIT: Did some research on the internet and found nothing. I'm assuming its a problem with the stage that us three downloaded and therefore am trying an emerge -e system to see if that corrects it. If not I'm out of ideas (admittedly I had no clue where to start).

The same issue on my 2 machines running gentoo amd64.
"emerge -e system" or "emerge -e world" don't help.
P.S.: I found description of the same stuff on russian gentoo forum. probably it's global, but many people just don't emerge wireless-tools every day.

changed to:

And it installed. Still gave an error though, but can't remember what it was.
It installs at least, and the file /lib/libiw.so exists after.

| I got this while emerge -e world, the library does exist which is the strangest problem, it may be a type-o in the code so we'll see if it gets fixed on a sync. |

In fact, maybe there a typo inside the ebuild or during the compilation process.
Maybe someone should at least open a bugzilla about that. |

ok here's how to fix it
open the ebuild located at /usr/portage/net-wireless/wireless-tools/wireless-tools-29.ebuild
at line 36:

change it to:

now everything in the manifest is messed up so open /usr/portage/net-wireless/wireless-tools/manifest and find:

You probably got an error since the type-o in the ebuild actually affected 2 lines in the makefile, when you fixed that line the other one was still messed up. I cant remember which lines they were exactly, but when you manually patch it as i outlined above both are fixed. |

dont do that, that is the effect of the real problem, follow my outline 3 posts up, that manually patches it, the .patch files are downloadable at bugzilla, theres a patch in the ebuild that was typed wrong that caused some funny problems when patching the makefile. all is well when you edit the .ebuild and manifest files as shown above |

This fixed my problem. Althought after changing line 36 I did | Code: | | ebuild /usr/portage/net-wireless/wireless-tools/wireless-tools-29.ebuild digest |
to fix the manifest problem. Good work!
