I've recently moved to xorg 1.6 following the given docs
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/x/x11/xorg-server-1.6-upgrade-guide.xml
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/x/x11/libxcb-1.4-upgrade-guide.xml
I didn't had any problem during upgrade, and I've removed any reference to the old libraries.
Now I have a new error in my Xorg.0.log but it doesn't seem fatal 'cause I can start X using Xsession but I get random blank screen or useless desktop background, without mouse nor keyboard, using Gnome.

One more information: starting firefox-bin in xsession's xtem crashes all too...
I haven't been able to find any further useful error message so I haven't yet understood if it a Xorg issue, a Gnome or a hal one.
I'm completely lost. Any help will be greatly appreciate

Maybe I've underestimated the "applesmc" error. Does Xorg 1.6 require specific mac drivers?
I've downgraded to xorg 1.5 and everything works fine.

As stated here and this post 6005967 there's some problem with 2.6.30-gentoo-r6 and latest xf86-video-intel (2.8.1) drivers. If you don't won't to bet on unstable ebuilds, just mask xf86-video-intel-2.8.1 and xf86-video-intel-2.6.3-r1 will fits your needs...
