still have not found a solution for my problem above...

googled for some days, followed about 20 howto's but none succeeded.
even did a fresh install of gentoo but the problem remains....

did anyone manage to get midi working at all ???? for I havn't found any docs related to midi on gentoo....

Any help would be appreciated for I really don't think I will fix this one on my own.....

Hi. New version of media-sound/tuxguitar-1.2 is out. Bumped from 1.0 to 1.2 ebuild works just fine for me.

Hello,

I see the proaudio overlay is almost sleeping. What happens ?
Are there enough maintainers/committers ?

This overlay is a must for the musicians. I am software developer (in my real life), I can contribute if needed.

Hello,

No news from any pro-audio dev/maintainer on the mailing list.
What can we do ?

This overlay seems to be declared as dead, and I don't want that issue...

No, it is still alive
I got answers from some maintainers. Some of them have computer problems, and be back soon.

Has anyone managed to subscribe to the mailing since mid-November or so? I've sent a couple of requests but gotten no replies. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong. Figured I'd not keep spamming them since saw the notice about computer problems etc. Still, if someone has had success I will re-read instructions carefully and try again.

Hello,

I am on the list. Do you have subscription problem or do you complain about "no replies" ?

The tuxguitar ebuilds in the overlay are very outdated, the latest one is for 1.0, since then, 1.1 and 1.2 were already released.
There is an ebuild in the java-overlay for 1.1-r1 though.

If noone has the time to upgrade the ebuild, i could try for myself, but i have to admit i'm not that experienced with writing ebuilds.

Hello,

Can you test it locally, by just "bumping" :
- rename an ebuild to have the latest version
- ebuild new_ebuild.ebuild metadata
- emerge -av new_ebuild

?

If it work, I will bump it to the pro-audio overlay.

Both the build from pro-audio and java-overlay work with bumped version (1.2).
The difference between the two ebuilds is, that the one from java-overlay builds from src with ant, allowing use flags, while the one from pro-audio uses binary distribution.
Since the building from source with use flags approach is much more gentooic, i suggest to use the one from the java-overlay, which is located here: http://gentoo-overlays.zugaina.org/java-overlay/portage/media-sound/tuxguitar/tuxguitar-1.1-r1.ebuild

I just found a thread about it in gentoo bugzilla: https://bugs.gentoo.org/144967
There, someone posted an ebuild for tuxguitar-1.2, but it's practically the same as the one for 1.1-r1, except "~x86" has been added to the keywords.

Hello,

Both ways are good : enter a bug in bugs.gentoo.org in order to push it into the main portage tree, and using overlays (pro-audio) to test them in wild.

I will thus bump tuxguitar in the next days in pro-audio (I have write access). Please be patient ;)

1. http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/ should point to the new, unlocked thread here. It still points to the old, locked thread.

2. I've been away from pro-audio for a while but am now building a new Gentoo machine on which I will do pro-audio stuff. I just noticed that there are no ebuilds to satisfy vst_plugins. Anything starting with that name is non-extant. What happened?

If it's actually getting updated now, can someone please update the lmms-9999 ebuild? I've got a local copy that actually works so all the hard work's been done:

libfreebob doesn't compile under gcc-4.4. I found a patch here, but it didn't help. I have to switch to a 4.3 config, and since everything else was done with 4.4, I need to switch back and forth. I'd love to get a working patch but don't feel savvy enough to troubleshoot it.

http://www.mail-archive.com/pld-cvs-commit@lists.pld-linux.org/msg191360.html

Let me know what I can do.

My question is : is the contents of the code you cite the same as previous versions ?
In that cas, it is as easy as copy the ebuild with the new version name (this is called "bumping").

Nevertheless, I did so and the latest version is available in the overlay (compilng on my 2 machines, amd64 and x86 ;))

All I did was correct the SRC_URI. Nothing else was changed. 8)

Thanks for the bump!

You're welcome ;)

If there is some other ebuild to simply "bump", please tell it, and I'll do it.
I am not "gentoo developer", but I have write access to the pro-audio overlay and can do simple commits as this ;)
