PostPosted: Thu Aug 20, 2009 5:49 pm    Post subject: What happend to GLSA detail News and Announcements? Reply with quote

I was redirected here by the "report problems here" link in news and announcements after the forum move...

I see from my logs that my system needs an update for 200908-07 so I go to where I usually see the detail of security advisories: News and Anouncements and there no GLSAs listed there since
[ GLSA 200907-16 ] Python: Integer overflows on Jul19

and yet there should be at least 7 more based on "200908-07"

Maybe I missed something and they were moved? I looked at the announcements and didn't see anything, so whazup? :?

[edit] ya may as well delete this post. it was answered an hour or two later on the regular part of the forum in reply to another poster. So ditch this, its being handled, just not by anyone here...[/edit]

Just wondering if the GLSA's will make a comeback to the forums News and Announcements section.

last i checked the glsa stuff on the forums is generated by a script that the security team runs, totally independent of the forum team... my guess is that they had it hardcoded to "dove".

although, if you email kleiber, he might know the person who can fix it.

Thanks for the info... I just sent an email to kleiber. I'll post back when I have more info.

Thanks for that Bunder

However clearly the setup for this forum is broken. What's the point of that top thread again? stay with me...this is on topic.
You get redirected to the top thread from the news and announcements where it says
"
The forums are now at their new home. Please report any problems you encounter.
"

so that is what I did, when I couldn't find GLSAs any more, the exact same issue as this thread, about an hour before this thread was posted and no notice has been taken yet of what I posted but this thread gets answered.

Makes a mockery of:
"This will allow an easy method of contacting all moderators at one time. "

Oh well. I'll know better next time. Ignore what _that_ says.

Thanks for taking care of the missing GLSAs mikegpitt

Actually, GLSAs are pulled by the forum server, not pushed to it.

Please, do not.

Indeed, my fault.

How so, exactly? Not all moderators or administrators have the access required to determine what the problem was, much less fix it, so they left the report for someone with at least the former if not the latter. You edited the report indicating that you considered it to have been addressed without linking to why, so I only found this topic when I specifically went looking for what the problem was that you mentioned.

Bad idea, that topic is the best way to contact active moderators, with the possible exception of sending e-mail to forum-mods@gentoo.org.

Actually, your report deserves the credit, given that it was where I was looking for problems which needed to be addressed. I only found this topic when I decided to check on what you meant by it being handled by others.

Merged the initial report.

My apologies. I stand humbled and corrected.

Not quite... almost... I recently applied, as I recall, 200908-07, which prompted my original post, but it hasn't quite made it to https://forums.gentoo.org/viewforum-f-16.html yet...

ahh just looked at my mail where they get sent and it seems to be up to
[ GLSA 200908-10 ] Dillo: User-assisted execution of arbitrary code

but https://forums.gentoo.org/viewforum-f-16.html is only at 200908-04

Cheers.

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-789089-start-0-postdays-0-postorder-asc-highlight-.html

I guess there were just too many GLSA's in one 24 hour period and the posting bot went on strike...

It might be nice if there were some actual information in that post.

(Not that it matters to me, I'm not using Gentoo these days)

That fits what I managed to find out as well as anything. I even updated the GLSA announcements on two other boards using this same codebase (test servers) trying to find the problem, alas both worked.

There is now, as I was going to fix it, which is somewhat more involved than just editing the post, I found that it had already been fixed.

Merged the two preceding posts from the reports topic.
