Hi all,

Not sure if someone already filed this problem when updating from an old net-misc/iputils.
Maybe someone has an idea?

That's what I am trying to update:
[ebuild U ] net-misc/iputils-20121221 [20100418] USE="ssl -SECURITY_HAZARD -caps% -doc -gnutls% -idn -ipv6 -static"

Emerge failed in rarpd.c because 'struct ifaddr' seems to be defined somewhere else... but I have no idea where? Any idea what to do? Kernel-headers/sources too old? (2.6.35)

Here is what emerge tells me finally when it ends up:

i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -march=native -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -pipe -Wall -fno-strict-aliasing -Wstrict-prototypes -Wall -D_GNU_SOURCE  -c rarpd.c  -o rarpd.o

Your build log is missing. However, from the provided emerge --info, we can see this system is badly outdated in places and weirdly modern in other places. This is not a good state to be in. Please set aside your iputils problem, update the rest of the system, and then retry.

Yes, I try updating as far as I can do. The thing is, that this system has been set up in 2005 and has not been updated for about 3 years now.
emerge -uD world is not working in such cases as it seems.
I'm currently updating the core and see how far I get. First thing now will be dating up the kernel incl. headers and sources from 2.6 to 3.10...
Running GENTOO on Xeon E3-1220Lv2 (2,2GHz) with 40W Idle powe consumption.
