instead of the old package.unmask, package.mask, package.keywords, package.use, etc. use a more extensible interface - essentially individual make.conf's almost...
Basically, my gripe stems from the fact that you can't change MAKEOPTS for a single package constantly... of course, then I realized, you can't change CFLAGS or anything like that for a single package...
So, I think that if you could get all the single-package configuration into a single file per package, more single-package changes could be made without cluttering up /etc/portage with package.makeopts, package.cflags, etc.

Except that you can.

Difficult, since it means combining settings that are/can be sourced (a lá make.conf) with those that are not (package.*) in a single file.
Disagree, mainly because this topic is a dupe.
