Anyone help :?:
After using Gerks stage3 tarball, everything went ok including compiling the kernel. But on reboot, it can't find my modules, it is looking in /libs/modules/2.4.19-r3 directory which doesn't exist, the kernel I compiled is r6, anyway I can fix this? should I have done an export CONFIG_PROTECT= before emerge ppc-sources?

 Any info would help

ps I created a link pointing 2.4.19-r3 at the r6 directory, but it keeps coming back with link level to deep (too many links) so that failed...

Did you make modules_install?

Are you sure your bootloader is picking up the right kernel? Perhaps yaboot.conf needs editing or ybin needs rerunning.

I have done a make modules_install, everything was done properly, and all the files are there, except that they are in /lib/modules/2.4.19-r6, I have put an extra line in modules.conf so that depmod, insmod etc can find the right directory, but still no luck - and I'm using bootx as a loader so I have no clue as to how to configure this, should i be using yaboot? (my ppc is a mac 7500/200)

I encountered the same problem when compiling my kernel.

I think, although I'm not sure, that it was because I compiled the kernel while I booted via the Gentoo Boot CD (thought maybe the kernel from the CD was rc3). I remade the kernel (make dep; make clean; make vmlinux; make modules; make modules_install) while booted from the HD and I the error disappeared.

Aha - then did you copy your new vmlinux file to BootX's Linux Kernels folder?
