Hi
I finally got my native lcd resolution in system console on i915 mobile Intel chipset working. I installed uvesafb following the instructions on http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Asus_Eee_PC_701#uvesafb_and_userland_tools.
The problem is that loading uvesafb module is very slow, the exact command is:
| Code: |
modprobe uvesafb mode_option=1680x1050-32
|
It takes approximately 11 sec which is really too much compared to the whole boot process. Another performance issue is that when i select first system console (ctrl+alt+f1) it also takes a quite long time to switch to it, and here i don't mean switching from X11, but from another system console. Switching to second system console (ctrl+alt+f2) works very fast, which is normal, but switching back to f1 is again too slow.
Does anyone have similar problems, is this normal or is it just my configuration problem.
Thanks |

Are you still running into this problem? I have uvesafb built into my kernel, but I'm having a bunch of problems with v86d segfaulting. When I first boot (even without uvesafb as a parameter) I have a long pause with a black screen. After this the system boot normally, however when I switch back to a virtual console there is again a long pause.
I thought this had something to to with PREEMPT_RCU=y in my .config, and I had things working last night, but they stopped working after more fiddling, and I can't seem to fix things.
There are a few threads in bugzilla about v86d segfaults, but for older versions. BTW - I'm using gentoo-sources-2.6.30-r4, v86d-0.1.9 and klibc-1.5.12-r1. |

BTW - I might have figured out a solution that fixes this issue (at least in my case). Try compiling v86d with the x86emu flag, then recompile your kernel sources. This did the trick for me... it took a while to figure it out though, cause I didn't realise I needed to recompile the kernel source after, which led me to think it had something to do with changing kernel settings.
Has anyone else encountered this black screen when booting with uvesafb? I might file a bugzilla report... |
