Hi all,

I am trying to set up an old server (hppa arch) with a little small disc (8GB).
As it is going to be a server for specific tasks I don't really need to keep all Portage on my hdd (which actually takes almos 1Gb of data)
I mean, I don't need any x11-*, sci-* branches and so on. Where do I configure Portage, so that after emerge --sync these portages won't be updated? (I would like to remove them from my hdd)

Create a file such as "/etc/portage/rsync_excludes", and for each category you wish to omit add it to that file, eg;
rsync_excludes:
games-*/
gnome-*/
kde-*/
x11-*/

Then add PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS="--exclude-from=/etc/portage/rsync_excludes" to /etc/make.conf, delete the categories you don't want from /usr/portage, and you're done.

Portage will error out if you attempt to emerge anything which depends on something you've removed, so you should be a little conservative at least.
