I have noticed one no longer can emerge 'fbsetbg' the handy wallpaper setting app, with the option to choose wallpapers randomly on every wm start. Why isn't it there and what other similar application is in the Protage?

i don't know why fbsetbg is missing now, but i used media-gfx/feh for setting wallpapers during my fluxbox period. i would recommend it to you.

/usr/bin/fbsetbg is installed as part of x11-wm/fluxbox now (couldn't tell you when it got integrated). It's not actually a wallpaper-setter itself, so much as a frontend for progs like feh, which it looks for and uses when it finds them. There's a list of backends it can use here.

One that's not on that list but is in Portage is x11-misc/habak, which i believe is mostly associated with the fvwm community - dunno if it supports 'randomization', though... :?

I'm another 'feh' advocate, myself, coz it can do so much more than just set wallpaper. 8)

So, interestingly:

Code:
 /usr/bin/fbsetbg -i

display doesn't set the wallpaper properly. Transparency for fluxbox and apps like aterm and xchat won't work right with it. Consider installing feh, wmsetbg (from windowmaker) or Esetroot (from Eterm) and I'll use them instead.

Incorrect. There's an option for it using fvwm-crystal, but that's nothing more than a configuration set. See: fvwm-root and/or FvwmBacker instead.
